Keoladeo National Park, located at Bharatpur in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This erstwhile duck hunting reserve of the Maharajas is now a haven for many wintering migratory Palaearctic waterbirds as well as a host of resident breeding birds. As this wetland is located strategically in the Central Asian migratory pathway, it serves as an important congregation point for wintering waterbirds. I visited this bird sanctuary in February 2021 for the first time and it was breathtaking to observe the variety of fauna it offers. Each character seemed to be in its element, strutting around in this oasis, showing off its uniqueness. “Braggarts of Bharatpur” is what they shall be called.
